about

Every song has a story, here’s the story of this one:

—- First of all, I put an Easter egg in this track that is a little slice of my childhood :) I’m curious who will find it first. We’ll very likely be good friends haha —

While going through some dark times, I found myself crumpled on the floor, guitar in hand, drinking heavily, and slowly drifting into the future where I imagined myself a man sitting on the loading dock of partially blown up warehouses that served as a last hiding spot for a small community in a war torn apocalypse. With a guitar salvaged, I plead to the sun to rise just once more (metaphorically on humanity, but also just one more chance to feel the sun warm my skin).

I wrote most of this stream of consciousness while attempting to deeply feel the plight of this man of the future. It was easy to look back and ask why we didn’t try harder and act sooner, but through the song writing process, I found myself offering hope that even in the most dire of circumstances, we can come together for the sake of the human family, for the sake of the family of consciousness. I’d like to believe I would still be able to have the strength of this hope even if things got this bad.

I won’t go too in depth as far as song design, but one thing I really latched on to was the slow, minimal, lugging guitar as it connected to feelings of despondency. I liked my original take that would fall out of rhythm from time to time and decided to build the rest of the song around it instead of sticking to a clean metronome.

lyrics

Sun, sun, rise
Over the hills
One last time
I beckon my wife
My kids are too young
To watch the world burn

Why, why didn’t most try
To stop our unhinged leader’s lies?
They sacrifice all
These innocent lives
As most turn a blind eye

And you feel like
You don’t have a say in this life
But you do
You have me
And you and I make two

They can take what they want
As long as they keep most of us blind
Media mired in well funded lies
As most applaud their crimes

Those that try to make change
Face a whole world
Entrenched on teams
Who only listen to
What supports their beliefs
All else obsolete

And you feel like
You don’t have a say in this life
But you do
You have us
And we and you will do

And you feel like
You don’t have a say in this life
But you do
You have us
And we and you will do
